A Brief History of Center Pointe Church
No one knows for sure how Center got its name, but sometime in 1910 Rev. J. L. Hall held the first service of Center Methodist Episcopal Church. That service was held in the present sanctuary that was built on land donated by L. F. Sell the previous year. Mr. Sell was a prominent businessman and farmer in the area and his yellow brick house still stands just up the road from the church. A fellowship hall was added to the church in the 1980s where many activities and good meals have been shared. Office trailers were added in 2013 to use as classrooms, the pastor’s office and storage. However, Center is much more than the buildings. It is the people; people who love God, love each other, and welcome others with godly love.
The Center has a unique character, in that, from the outside, it looks like a typical country church. However, inside you see it is a blend of the old and the new, where the older furnishings are complimented by a modern sound system, an overhead projection system, drums, guitars, and a new piano. It is an indication that the congregation is willing to change with the times.
The Center has changed with the times. Founded as a Methodist Episcopal Church in 1909, it became part of the United Methodist Church (UMC) in 1968. In 2022, Center disaffiliated from the UMC. It is now a Global Methodist affiliated church. In 2024 the congregations of The Center and Arbor Pointe decided to merge and become Center Pointe Church. One thing that has not changed is that the Gospel of Jesus Christ will continue to be preached, taught and shared with those who want to know His saving grace. As it was in 1910, Center Pointe Church continues to be a beacon of hope to all who enter its doors.
